Do you believe in soulmates? Leah found hers through a photograph… a mysterious man with a tattoo that spoke to her in her dreams. Right then and there, she realized that she had found him… that they had found each other. Duncan and Leah share a unique studio that contains wax pieces and motorcycle parts. Duncan is also an artist, one who builds choppers and custom motorcycles. In addition, he is a fantastic cook and nurturing father.
I will be sharing a few posts recounting our memorable days spent with Leah Macdonald. Leah has many roles. She is an artist, photographer, teacher, wife and mother. To me and Jason, she is a friend and an example of artistic inspiration and intellectual freedom. We took a trip to Leah’s home and studio in Philadelphia where we met her family, photographed each other and made sweet art.
If you asked me who would I want on my side in a bar fight, I would say Kendall Herring. Once at an MMA fight, he knocked his opponent out in 8 seconds. Aside from being a badass fighter and coach (he used to be one of my Muay Thai instructors), he’s also pretty darn nifty on a bike. I spent last Sunday afternoon in Gordonsville with him and “his boys” practicing for a 4th of July gig at Brawley Fights 4 in Staunton.
Rest in peace, Friend. April 26, 1996 - May 2, 2009.
It is with a heavy heart that I write today about the loss of our beloved friend and family member, Faucet. He was struck and instantly killed by a vehicle this past weekend on the highway near our home. We can only take a small amount of comfort in knowing that he did not suffer.
Faucet lived a great life. His world consisted of running the woods, pulling weeds for Jay whenever he mowed the lawn, barking at deer, herding in the UPS and Fed Ex trucks up our driveway, snacking on tons of treats, and sleeping in our bed underneath the covers on cold nights. Even though Faucet was 13 years old, his personality still rang out as a puppy. He loved to be around people, especially the ladies. If you have ever met Faucet, you probably realized immediately why his name was Faucet. My car’s back windows still have the remnants of his drool and nose prints plastered lovingly all over, even after I have tried to clean them…., but now I think that I will leave them there for as long as they want to stay.
Dearest Faucet, you were such an outstanding friend. We will miss you.

It was a day full of laughter, smiles, tears and love. Steve and Amanda were married at the lovely UVA Chapel on April 18th. Their day began with beautiful weather, wine tastings and brunch. After their ceremony, I left the chapel where Jason shot portraits and headed toward the Greencroft Club. The Greencroft is one of my favorite places to shoot in Charlottesville. The grounds are naturally beautiful without being overly manicured. The rooms are all well lit with an abundance of windows, and the staff is super cool. Oh, and the food is amazing!
The one thing that Jason and I recall the most from that weekend is how lovely the families were together. There were so many moments where I hid behind the camera in tears.
a perfect day
