Super sweet, super cute couple Scott and Mandy celebrated their wedding two weeks ago at the UVA Chapel.  While crazy thunderstorms and torrential downpour loomed overhead during their rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, their wedding day was beautiful, sunny and warm.  After the ceremony, the party continued in Afton as everyone was shuttled to Veritas Vineyard and Winery.  Our third photographer Rae joined us in documenting the fun.  The reception was incredibly high energy and guided by a fantastic dream team:  Calla Carver ensured that the day flowed efficiently, Rick Haggard kept the party dancing and Teri Edwards created one of the most delicious cakes EVER.  Seriously.  Here are some of my favorite images from their wedding day.

Do you believe in soulmates?  Leah found hers through a photograph… a mysterious man with a tattoo that spoke to her in her dreams.  Right then and there, she realized that she had found him… that they had found each other.    Duncan and Leah share a unique studio that contains wax pieces and motorcycle parts.  Duncan is also an artist, one who builds choppers and custom motorcycles.  In addition, he is a fantastic cook and nurturing father.

I will be sharing a few posts recounting our memorable days spent with Leah Macdonald.  Leah has many roles.  She is an artist, photographer, teacher, wife and  mother.  To me and Jason, she is a friend and an example of artistic inspiration and intellectual freedom.  We took a trip to Leah’s home and studio in Philadelphia where we met her family, photographed each other and made sweet art.

Matt and Kristen are getting married in October at the historic Miller & Rhoads which houses  Hilton Garden Inn.  I’m so excited… it’s so beautiful inside, and Matt and Kristen are so cute and fun!  Jason and I spent an entire day with them hanging out and getting shots of them at a favorite coffee shop, Chimborazo Park, Main Street Station and St. John’s church where Patrick Henry orated the famous “Give me liberty, or give me death…” speech.

You may not know this about me and Jason, but we eloped nearly five years ago at the Albemarle County Juvenile Detention Center/Jail.  So romantic, I know.  No, we weren’t in trouble with Johnny Law or anything, we just didn’t realize that the magistrate’s office was located there.  Remember that question, who cuts the barber’s hair? Well, it would have to be someone that the barber trusted  and thought was a pretty darn good barber.   As a wedding photographer, we have often wondered who would have been our photographer, our cake maker, our DJ, etc. had we actually had a wedding.  For a wedding photographer to hire someone to photograph their own wedding, I think that says quite a lot about the photographer-for-hire.  We were so touched, flattered and taken aback when wedding photographer Amanda Simmons called us and insisted that we shoot her wedding.  She found us through event planner Megan Daubert, who we absolutely love working with.  She is a top-notch event planner, and if she wasn’t planning weddings, she could easily earn a living as a singer or stand-up comedian.  Megan has been one of Amanda’s closest friends, and was also a bridesmaid for the wedding!  Of course, the wedding weekend was a blast!  Amanda and Cale’s wedding was nestled in between me and Jason’s birthdays, his on the ninth, and mine on the fourteenth.  Wouldn’t you know that there was an extra cake at the reception with our names on it??  Oh, and get this… we had a fun challenge trying to tell Cale apart from his best man, Nick.  Cale and Nick are twins, and they also both US Army Rangers, how awesome is that?  Let’s not forget Amanda’s shoes… those hot, ruby red slippers…
